WILS Hosts Successful Outdoors Without Limits Event, Bringing Community Together for Accessibility and Independence
Warrensburg, MO — WILS (West-Central Independent Living Solutions) proudly hosted the annual Outdoors Without Limits event, creating opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the outdoors while building community connections.
The event brought together participants from WILS, Rise, Johnson County Board of Services, Abilities LLC, Center for Human Services, Odessa Schools, Chilhowee School, and Northwest Community Services. Attendees enjoyed a day of fellowship, skill-building, and peer support, demonstrating the power of inclusive outdoor recreation.
Volunteers from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the local Stealth Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and WILS staff played a vital role in making the day a success. Their time, expertise, and passion ensured participants had both the guidance and encouragement to explore and learn.
Support from the broader community made the event possible. Chairs were generously loaned by Warrensburg Lutheran Church. Donations were provided by Johnson County United Way and Johnson County Board of Services. These contributions reflect the community-wide commitment to accessibility and independence for people with disabilities.
“This event is about more than just enjoying the outdoors,” said Teresa Huffman, Resource Development Manager. “It’s about building skills, confidence, and connections. Outdoors Without Limits gives participants the chance to explore what independence means to them while being supported by their peers and community.”
The day also emphasized important independent living skills, from teamwork and communication to self-confidence and problem-solving. For many, it was an opportunity to not only enjoy nature but also to gain new skills that support their independence in everyday life.
WILS thanks all the community partners, volunteers, and participants who came together to make Outdoors Without Limits a meaningful and memorable experience.
